Dress Code Policies
School uniforms are required for all students attending East Wake Academy. All uniforms are to be neat, clean, and in good condition. Torn, tattered, or dirty uniforms are unacceptable.
East Wake Academy students are to wear only school approved shirts and bottoms. EWA has a contract with Education Outfitters in Cary for uniforms. Orders may be placed online at www.educationaloutfitters.com
The guidelines for the Dress Code are listed below: *All shirts are to be tucked into pants, shorts, skorts, skirts, etc. (young men and ladies). All pants, shorts, skirts, skorts, and shirts are to be worn around the waist and are not to be lowered, rolled down, or under. Shorts, skorts, and skirts are not to have the hemlines shortened.
As stated before, the dress code will be enforced. Please make sure that your child is in compliance each morning before coming to school. East Wake Academy administration has the authority to determine whether or not an item is acceptable to dress code. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school office.
EWA will aggressively enforce our dress code this year. Teachers will enforce the dress code and issue consequences. Violations referred to administration will carry the following consequences:

- Only white undershirts or EWA gym apparel are allowed under shirts.
- Only school approved sweaters or school sweatshirts are to be worn indoors during school hours. Hoodies in solid navy or those that are purchased from Educational Outfitters may be worn in grades 5-12.
- Belts must be black or brown, solid or braided
- Leather. Belts must have plain, small buckles.
- Belts must be worn with all pants and shorts, and skirts with belt loops.
- Socks are to be worn at all times. Only socks in solid white, navy, or black are allowed. Only tights with feet in white or navy will be allowed (NO leggings).
- No sandals, open back shoes, flip flops, platform shoes, or boots are allowed. Shoes must be correctly laced and tied at all times.
- Students may wear boots to school during the colder months only: October through March ONLY. Boots must not have high heels, chains, spikes or spurs. Shoes must be correctly laced and tied at all times.Tennis shoes are still required for physical education.
- Male students hair should be neat and not in the face or below the collar. Male students facial hair should be neatly trimmed at all times. No Mohawks or scalp designs are allowed.
- Ladies should only wear “post style” earrings. No “dangle” styles are accepted. Wear only one earring in each ear. Young men are not to wear earrings at any time!
- Necklaces are to be a minimum of 18 inches in length and should not be visible on the outside of clothing or around neck.
- No body piercing is to be displayed. No band-aids to cover body piercing will be permitted.
- Make-up should be held to a minimum and should not be applied while at school. No glitter on face or body. Black or navy colored fingernail polish is not allowed.
- Non-natural hair coloring is not permitted for young men or ladies. (ex. Orange, purple, red streaks, multicolor, or other non-natural hair colorings.)
- No sunglasses, hats or caps, visors or headgear of any kind are to be worn at any time on school grounds (this includes Physical Education and Recess!). Any violations will be confiscated and will not be returned until the last day of school.
- Uniforms are to be worn at all times! A change of clothing can occur only after school is dismissed and the student is off school grounds. A change of clothing is required for 5th grade and up during Physical Education in approved school PE uniform.

- 1st Offense—Parent notification
- 2nd Offense—Parent notification- 1 day out of school suspension
- 3rd Offense –3 Day out of school suspension – mandatory parent conference
- 4th Offense – 5 day out of school suspension – mandatory Headmaster review
- 5th offense—10 day out of school suspension - EWA Board review
Tardy Policy
- 1ST TARDY—Warning
- 2ND TARDY—2ND Warning
- 3RD TARDY—Notification to parents (letter or email)
- 4TH TARDY—Disciplinary Action (parent conference requested)
- 5TH TARDY—Out of school suspension (administrative discretion—parent conference mandatory)
- 6TH TARDY—Out of school suspension (3 days mandatory)
- 7TH TARDY—Out of school suspension (5 days mandatory—referral to the Headmaster for review)
Any infraction exceeding seven tardies in one quarter will carry a mandatory 10 day suspension and board review regarding attendance status.
If the EWA Board of Directors allows the student to remain at EWA, any additional infractions will face mandatory out of school suspensions and possible long term suspensions.
